Film in Finland has been boosted by extra funding from a stimulus package. The Finnish film industry has had the pleasant surprise to receive €5 million from the government as part of a €400 million stimulus package to support the Finnish economy. This extra grant comes on top of a 30% increase in the production budget for 2009 (raising it to €18 million in total) that was approved by the Finnish Parliament at the end of 2008, following a conflict in the Finnish film industry. In September 2007, 31 Finnish film producers went on strike when the government didn't keep it's promise to raise the film budget for 2008. The strike ended three months later and an extra €2 million grant coming from the Lottery funds was earmarked for film in 2008. Thus, the recent raise is a victory for the Finnish film industry that has been lobbying the government for the past two years.

The annual award for the Norwegian TV business, Gullruten, has added new categories to the family. Since 1998 the Gullruten award has been given to TV programmes and the people on the screen, such as Best Documentary, Best Entertainment Programme, Best Male/Female Actor. This year, the Gullruten Foundation has succeeded in creating awards for the people behind the camera. These awards consist of a.o. Best Director, Best Photo, Best Script, Best Editing. The new awards will be presented at a separate ceremony, the day before the Gullruten TV show, on 8 May 2009. By creating these new awards, the Gullruten Foundation wishes to increase the focus on the technical and visual side of Norwegian TV production.
The awarding committee has representatives from
the Norwegian Film and TV Producers' Association and the major national
TV companies, NRK, TV2, TV3 and TV Norge. Read all about Gullruten here.

The International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival One World in Prague will in connection with their 11th edition offer free online streaming of thematic blocks of documentaries.
The online project is launched in cooperation with One World's partner festivals DOK Leipzig, One World Bratislava, Vérzio Budapest and Watch Docs Warsaw.
Already available to
watch is the key thematic section 20 Years of Democracy in Film. The
featured films in different ways reflect important challenges,
successes and failures of the era of transformation in Central Europe.
The films are accompanied by thematic articles which create contexts
for the presented films and should stimulate discussions. You can see

The 11th edition of One World took place in Prague form 11 to 19 March.
