New Nordic and International
Initiatives
22.04.2010 Renewed Political Focus on Nordic
TV-Channel The idea of establishing a joint
Nordic cultural TV-channel like the French/German ARTE channel, is on
the table again. Nordic TV-viewers want cultural programmes, and the
Nordic Council’s Cultural Committee is responding to the demand by
taking up discussions on the establishment of a joint Nordic cultural
TV-channel. A Nordic channel offering cultural programmes to the
Nordic audiences would be a long needed alternative to the American
produced TV-programmes that dominate the Nordic channels. It will also
work as a platform to stimulate the interest in Nordic and European
culture and languages. The idea of a joint Nordic TV-channel is far
from new. Previous debates on the matter have failed, due to arguments
saying that the group of Nordic TV-viewers is too heterogeneous to be
considered as one audience. This time, however, the possibilities of
setting up Internet-based TV-channels tailored to each country's
audiences, might make the idea more realisable. Read more here.

22.04.2010 Double Up for OFF This
year Odense Film Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and with
an extra DKK 1 Million this year from Fonden til Markedsføring af
Danmark, (Fund for the Promotion of Denmark), the festival can celebrate
with a double-sized budget. The extra funding allows for an expanded
festival programme with more events, more international guests and a
stronger branding of the festival. The 2010 edition of the festival
experiences a boom in applications, with 1500 short films received from
directors all over the world, but the number of titles in the festival
programme will remain the same. The festival runs from 23-28 August. Read
more about the festival here.
