Hot Docs and Filmkontakt Nord are calling for interactive documentary projects for docXchange - a new initiative open to European and North American producers.

docXchange is a two-step programme comprised of fostering professional development and offering potential financing opportunities for your interactive documentary project. The first part of the programme takes place in May 2011 with a three-day seminar/workshop at Hot Docs in Toronto, Canada. The second part takes place in September 2011 with a one-day financing forum at Nordisk Panorama in Aarhus, Denmark. The language of the programme is English.
docXchange is open to applications from North American and European producers working on interactive documentary projects. A maximum of 24 projects will be selected for the seminar/workshop at Hot Docs. From the seminar/workshop participants, a maximum of 10 projects will be selected for the financing forum at Nordisk Panorama.
Eligibility
docXchange is looking for producers with:
a creative documentary production
- with international appeal
- produced with a user friendly, interactive digital media inventiveness
- clearly described and well researched
- by a team with a proven track record in either the field of documentary or interactive digital production
- in development or preproduction
To participate in docXchange you are expected to have an openness and willingness to participate in a group learning and mentorship process as part of advancing your own project.
To be selected to the docXchange financing forum priority will be given to:
- projects that can show a basic funding and distribution plan backed with letter(s) of intent
- projects with a strong international distribution appeal
- projects with a strong team capable of producing the specific project with excellence
The Programme
STEP 1: docXchange seminar/workshop
Hot Docs, Toronto, Canada 1-3 May 2011
A three-day seminar/workshop for 24 European and North American producers with interactive documentary projects in development.
Three full days where you will connect with decision-makers, experts and other professionals from Europe and North America working in the digital media field to grow your knowledge capital of the interactive documentary specifically market intelligence, co-production models and innovative technology elements in a collegiate atmosphere from first-rate digital media experts.
Participation fee: DKK 5625 incl. VAT 25% (approx. EURO 750)
You will get:
- a three-day programme on digital media with networking activities and possible meetings with experts and decision-makers
- accreditation to Hot Docs Industry and Conference Pass
- three nights accommodation at one of the main festival hotels
- lunch and coffee all three days
- one joint evening dinner with decision-makers and other seminar attendees
- possibility to buy an accreditation to Hot Docs Forum at reduced rate.
- possibility to be selected to the docXchange financing forum the 28 September in Denmark
- network activities in coordination with the Nordic delegation
STEP 2: docXchange financing forum
Nordisk Panorama, Aarhus, Denmark 28 September 2011
Financing forum for 10 interactive documentary projects selected among the 24 presented at the seminar/workshop.
10 projects will be selected to publicly pitch at the docXchange financing forum in front of an international panel of financiers of documentary cross-media productions. After the pitch individual meetings will be arranged between pitch teams and financiers.
Participation fee: DKK 3750 incl. VAT 25% (approx. EURO 500)
You will get:
- participation in the financing forum with possibility to book individual meetings with present financiers and experts
- two nights accommodation
- lunch and coffee
- participation in the Awards Gala & Closing Party of Nordisk Panorama on 27 September
- possibility to be an observer at Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries 26-27 September including full access to all Nordisk Panorama screenings and events at reduced rate
- possibility to bring a fellow pitch team member at reduced rate
Participants cover travel expenses to both Hot Docs and Nordisk Panorama by themselves.
The Application
Application requirements:
- completed application form
- a short project synopsis (85 word count)
- a short project status report (250 word count)
- a one-page project treatment (500 word count)
- a summary of project interactive component (500 word count)
- a one-page production budget in the USD and EURO
- short biographical information of the key creatives (300 word count for each individual): director, production company and digital partners
- a trailer or clip of film footage or visuals, still or moving, from a digital media prototype sent via vimeo link with password
Applications must be in English.
The selection will be done by an international committee of digital media and documentary experts. We are aware this is an exciting, shifting and evolving field and we are as responsive as the emerging digital media field itself.
The selection for the docXchange seminar/workshop will be announced no later than 28 March 2011.
