MIFA - International Market for Animation
Filmkontakt Nord continues its increased focus on animation and will again this year be present with a stand at MIFA (Marché International du Films d'Animation), taking place in Annecy, France from 13-15 June.
MIFA is one of the most important industry events for international animation films and professionals. During 3 days some 6000 participants expand their international networking and follow up on the latest developments within the production of animation films. Heidi Elise Christensen of FkN will host the Nordic Producers' Stand including 6 companies from the Nordic countries.
Sunny Side of the Doc
FkN hosts the Nordic Producers' Stand and facilitates co-production and distribution contacts on the international market at Sunny Side of the Doc. 14 production companies from the Nordic countries join FkN's Katrine Kiilgaard in La Rochelle, France, 26-29 June.

New Animation Award at Odense Film Festival
Odense Film Festival and The Danish Animation Association have instituted the Danish Animation Award which will be presented for the first time at the 22nd Odense Film Festival. All animation short films, Danish as well as international, will be considered by a jury consisting of animators and persons with a thorough knowledge of films and animation. New Norwegian Music Video Award
The Norwegian Short Film Festival will for the first time present a new award category for Best Norwegian Music Video. The prize (15.000 NOK) is given by IFPI and FONO, music industry organizations. For more information: www.kortfilmfestivalen.no
New competition at Animatricks Animated Film Festival
Finland's oldest and only animation festival, Animatricks, has announced a new competition for animated shorts. The competition is open for animated films up to 30 min. from Nordic and Baltic countries. The films will be competing for a cash prize as well as the Animatricks' ANOBA-nomination (Award of Nordic and Baltic Animation Festivals). A new worldwide online distribution platform has been launched. The intention is to create a site for filmmakers by filmmakers, focusing on 'Films That Matter'. The company will host feature films, documentaries, shorts, music videos and satire for free - as long as the film seeks to make a social commentary, stimulates political conversation or encourages some social action. EDN TV-Guide online
European Documentary Network (EDN) has launched an online edition of the EDN TV-Guide, the European TV financing guide for documentary film. Since 1993, EDN annually publishes the TV-guide in a printed version and now the additional online version is available. This addition comes with a number of search functions, making it easier to search for exactly the right contacts, thematic references, length of slots and much more. New Icelandic documentary association
Reykjavík Documentary Workshop (RDW) aims to spread the culture of documentary filmmaking to professionals and others interested in documentaries in Iceland. The association will offer monthly screenings of documentaries and master-classes with internationally acclaimed directors. Film school online
Dvoted.net is a new online meeting place for young Nordic filmmakers. Initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers and produced and financed by the Nordic film institutes, dvoted offers three services for the young Nordic filmmaker aged 15-20 years: You can upload, watch and discuss films, get feedback and advice from professional filmmakers and receive news and information on film production, education and festivals. The website also serves as a community, showroom and network.
Future Shorts expands in the Nordic countries
The online short film label Future Shorts is rapidly expanding in the Nordic countries. Last year Future Shorts started regular screenings in Denmark, and now it has launched its Norwegian branch. As in Denmark, the screenings in Norway have been well received by a large audience. Also in Finland and Sweden events are currently being developed. With the launch of www.filmstriben.dk, Danish schools and libraries for the first time have the opportunity of screening shorts and documentaries from the DFI catalogue online. The service is developed by The Danish Bibliographic Centre in cooperation with The Danish Film Institute. Eventually, the idea is to open the service to the general public.
NAMES IN THE NEWS
The Board of Directors of the Danish Film Institute has appointed Henrik Bo Nielsen to be DFI's new Chief Executive as of 1 August 2007. Henrik Bo Nielsen, 46, comes form a position as Chief Executive on Danish newspaper Information. Henrik Bo Nielsen follows Henning Camre.
The Danish Film Institute has appointed Jakob Kirstein Høgel as Artistic Director of New Danish Screen. He is founder and director of the production company Cosmo Doc and has earlier been a Film Consultant at DFI. Jakob Høgel follows Vinca Wiedemann.
Key new appointments at the Swedish Film Institute: Journalist Pia Lundberg is the new head of the International Department, succeeding Staffan Grönberg. New Head of the Audience Department is Linda Zachrison, formerly an advisor to Sweden's former Minister of Culture, Leif Pagrotsky, and artistic director of Stockholm's hugely popular "Park Theatre" programme.
The Norwegian Film Fund has appointed Kalle Løchen as Short Film Consultant. He was the editor of Film & Kino and has previously been on the board of the Norwegian Short Film Festival. Kalle Løchen follows Peter Bøe.
Finnish documentary director Virpi Suutari (The Idle Ones, Along the Road Little Child) follows Kristina Schulgin as Artistic Director of DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival.
Marit Kapla follows Jannike Åhlund as Artistic Director of Göteborg International Film Festival. Marit Kapla comes from a position as programme coordinator at the festival and has previously worked for Värmlands folkblad, Nöjesguiden in Göteborg, Filmkröniken and had freelanced for Svenska Dagbladet.
Kajsa Stål is the new Head of Programme at Swedish TV4 Fakta. She joined TV4 in 1990 and has previously worked as reporter, producer and as head of Kalla Fakta.
Mette Hoffmann Meyer, Commissioning Editor and previously head of the distribution arm, has left TV 2/DANMARK "to seek new adventures". Mette Hoffmann Meyer joined TV 2 in 1991.
Children's film consultant Tonje Hardersen of Norwegian cinema association Film & Kino has been elected president of ECFA, the European Children's Film Association, which promotes films for children and young audiences.
