More than 450 films have been submitted to the Nordic short and documentary competitions at Nordisk Panorama - 5 Cities Film Festival, and the preselection jury is now fully occupied for the next many weeks. The final selection will take place in the beginning of July, so stay tuned for the July edition of the FkN Newsletter, which will bring you the list of selected films and their directors.

The deadline for submission of projects for Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of Documentaries is 16 June.
This year's edition of Nordisk Forum takes place in Reykjavík, Iceland, 28-29 September and welcomes documentary projects from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Greenland, The Faroe Islands, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. For more information, click here.

FkN will be out and about during June. In the beginning of the month, Jing Haase is in the international jury at Hamburg International Short Film Festival and in mid-June, she will be in Grimstad for the Norwegian Shortfilm Festival.
Heidi Elise Christensen is attending the animation market MIFA in Annecy, France, to meet with the Nordic delegates, maintain and expand FkN's international contacts and learn more about the newest films, ideas and projects. Last but not least, Katrine Kiilgaard is in place at Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle, France, by the end of the month. She will be joined at the Filmkontakt Nord Stand by 10 representatives from 8 production companies, who will enjoy a wide array of professional and social events arranged by FkN, on top of the official programme offered by Sunny Side of the Doc. Filmkontakt Nord's director, Karin Johansson-Mex, is taking a maternaty leave, starting mid june. We expect her back in the beginning of 2010. During her absence, Katrine Kiilgaard and Heidi Elise Christensen will share the responsibility of running FkN. We wish Karin all the best on her maternity leave.
Focus: New Nordic and International Initiatives

The Nordic ministers of culture have signed a new five-year agreement with the Nordic Film & TV Fund, that will run until the end of 2014. At their meeting in Reykjavík, the culture ministers, together with the Nordic film institutes and television stations, signed the new agreement, maintaining the current budget level.
With it's annual budget of approx. DKK 70 million, the Fund's primary purpose is to promote film and TV productions of high quality in the five Nordic countries, by providing support for top-up financing of feature films, TV-fiction/series and creative documentaries. The Fund also supports a range of other initiatives, ao. a range of film events of Nordic importance such as festivals, seminars and forums.

The Danish public service broadcaster DR, with the support of Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Culture Fund, has launched a website about the Nordic countries. The site is aimed at the 10-14 year-olds and is filled with tv clips, films, articles, facts, and interesting stories about the Nordic countries. The site focuses on Nordic history, geography, language and life in the Nordic countries and is very suitable as teaching material. The website is in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish, enabling most Nordic youngsters to learn a lot more about their neighbours. Check out the website here.
