Nordisk Panorama News

Nordisk Panorama is Coming Up!
The 23rd edition of Nordisk Panorama is just a month's time away! Oulu, Finland, is getting dressed and ready to celebrate Nordic shorts and docs 21-26 September.

Nordisk Panorama will offer you a wide selection of special programmes, seminars and social events besides the abundance of high quality Nordic shorts and docs in competition. Here are some tasty samples - and stay tuned, much more to come!

Johannes Nyholm: Nordisk Panorama Master Class and Retrospective
We're proud to present Swedish filmmaker and animator Johannes Nyholm, creator of what was probably the most talked about short film in 2011, Las Palmas.

Johannes Nyholm's films have won numerous awards at film festivals around the world. His short film The Tale of Little Puppetboy won an Honorary Mention at Nordisk Panorama in 2008, and his latest short film Las Palmas became a huge YouTube hit last year. Not only did it become the talk of the town on the web, it also won prizes at film festivals worldwide.

Besides creating innovative, funny, touching short masterpieces, he is also one of the most imaginative music video directors in the Nordic countries.

At Nordisk Panorama Nyholm will hold a master class and show a retrospective of his works including both short films and music videos.

Transmedia Hackathon
During Nordisk Panorama, guests might encounter a new species. You will recognize them by their paler skin tone, crooked fingers and dark eye areas. No, we're not talking about the otherwise very popular Transylvanian vampires, it's the 'Transmedia Hackathoners', who will spend their days and nights in front of their computers, creating demos and prototypes for projects that bring new dimensions to storytelling.

Twice during Nordisk Panorama, they will come out of their secret hiding place: Saturday at the Transmedia Seminar & Meet Up, where all NP delegates are invited to hear about how transmedia can help us tell stories, reach audiences and impact the way we see the world. As a keynote speaker, we're very proud to introduce transmedia consultant Lina Srivastava, creator of the transmedia activism framework and first-mover in transmedia for social issue content.

At this session, the Hackathoners might be able to blend in with the crowd, but the next time you meet them, they will show all characteristics, when they present what they've been up to non-stop for the past 28 hours. You're all invited to see the results!

If this is not enough for you, you still have a chance to be one of the Hackathoners: go to www.encounters.fi to read more about the project and register before 24 August.

Nordisk Panorama Outlook
In conjunction with Nordisk Panorama Market, Filmkontakt Nord presents NP Outlook, a series of talks and professional meetings bringing key players and key issues of today's short and documentary film market into the spotlight.

Focusing on international financing, distribution and sales, NP Outlook is aimed at filmmakers who want to keep in touch with the latest trends at the international market.

At this year's NP Outlook, you will learn about online distribution channels and iPad apps, you will get hands-on knowledge about the crooked ways of producing transmedia stories, and you'll get a unique insight into the current state of the short film in North America.

The full Outlook programme will be available soon!

NPM One-to-One
Are you a Nordic filmmaker attending Nordisk Panorama? Don't miss the opportunity to meet Nordic and international market professionals in one-to-one meetings!

Repeating the success from last year, Filmkontakt Nord is bringing you NPM one-to-one: short meetings of 10-15 minutes, giving market professionals and Nordic filmmakers a chance to meet exclusively.

The meetings will take place at the market from 10-18 during market days and are pre-arranged by Filmkontakt Nord. Find a list of attending professionals and request meetings here.

Nordic Student Rendezvous
Nordisk Panorama sharpens the focus on the next generation of Nordic filmmakers. One of the new initiatives is a student & teacher rendezvous for film and media schools at Nordisk Panorama in Oulu.

To support and encourage networking among film students and their teachers, we have created a package not to be missed.

We have collected a selection of the best film school films, not only from the Nordic countries, but also from this year's NP guest country, Poland, presenting a Wajda School section to celebrate the school's 10th anniversary. Furthermore, there will be a selection of films from Estonia, which is celebrating its 100th year of filmmaking.

The students and teachers will also benefit from two prominent speakers: Polish new generation filmmaker Bartek Konopka will make a keynote speech and host a retrospective of his films, including both fiction and documentaries. Konopka's fascinating documentary Rabbit à la Berlin has won several awards at film festivals and was nominated for an Oscar in 2010.

Acclaimed film critic John Anderson will also share his vast knowledge at the rendezvous. Anderson writes for Variety, Newsday and the Wall Street Journal and appears regularly in the New York Times. He's a three-time chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle and he's the author of ao. Sundancing and I wake up Screening.

VideoMarathon
Again this year Nordisk Panorama will present the best films from a pan-Nordic film making competition, this year the VideoMarathon.

The VideoMarathon competition takes place simultaneously in Denmark, Sweden and Norway 24-26 August. The participants will undertake the creative and exciting task of making a film in 48 hours after receiving a secret topic that will be revealed at the start of the competition.

The jurors are acclaimed filmmakers from each country and we can't wait to see the results at Nordisk Panorama.

You can still register for the competition, but act fast, the deadline is 22 August. Read more here.
